Reopening Announcement

Hobsonville Community Trust (HCT) is excited to announce that the the building works for the Headquarters Building are officially finished and the last minor tidy ups and handover pieces are underway. The Headquarters Building, recently named ‘Te Mahere’ will reopen for hire from Monday 2 September. Room hire will be available from 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

In preparation for the reopening of these community facilities, Hobsonville Community Trust will also begin seeking applicants for the roles of ‘Community Venue Coordinator’ (28 hrs p/wk) and ‘Venue Cleaner’ (approx 5 hrs p/wk). If you are interested, please email your CV to employment@hobsonville.org.nz. Applications close 14 August (unless extended by HCT).

Booking Info

Bookings will open online through our website (www.hobsonville.org.nz), from 11am on Tuesday 20 August. Please note that no one-off bookings will be received before then.

Over the coming week, we will be contacting those groups that have previously expressed an interest in becoming regular hirers of an ongoing booking time to confirm your interest and final details. We will then work the regular hire matrix through with Auckland Council and invite the approved regular hirers to create their bookings with us.

The hire rates for the Headquarters are now on our website. Our venue hire conditions can be accessed here and will be included with any online booking.

Sunderland Lounge – Te Rere

The refurbishment of the Sunderland Lounge, recently named ‘Te Rere’, is now nearing completion and looks amazing. There is no date yet on its reopening but it’s getting a lot closer. We will update you more on this facility as soon as we can.

Meaning of Te Mahere and Te Rere

  • Te Mahere means to plan, to map, to chart and supports the historical theme of travel. Mahere can be used when talking about mapping a journey but also when planning for something in the future. Te Mahere suits the Headquarters because the building is a space where members of the community can come together, to meet, to learn and ‘plan for’ the future of the community.
  • Te Rere means to move, flow, or go into action which supports the notion of Sunderland Lounge as a ‘doing’ space on a larger scale than that of Headquarters.

The project and facilities teams from Auckland Council are nearing the completion of the new wastewater connection at Headquarters Building and the refurbishment and landscaping of the Sunderland Lounge.

It won’t be long until both facilities are up and running, which is very timely as winter has well and truly upon us and we need warm and welcoming indoor community spaces for all our activities and events! Thank you so much for your patience and continued support during the temporary closure period.

Even though the doors have been closed, the Upper Harbour Local Board have been busy with an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process to find a local community organisation to manage both of these community facilities.

The Upper Harbour Local Board has granted the management contract for operation of its two Auckland Council owned venues, Headquarters and Sunderland Lounge, to the Hobsonville Community Trust  (HCT).
Hobsonville Community Trust will take on the role from 1st July, 2019.  HCT has been running community events at Hobsonville Point since development started here.  At the Upper Harbour Local Board meeting, HCT assured board members that its Christian values and beliefs will not affect how they rent out the facilities, which will be open to all.

During this interim period, if you are interested in booking a space or making an enquiry you can do so via the “Book Facilities” page or by submitting the form found here.

I’m not sure how often we say this but I’ll say it again, Hob Pt is such an amazing community to be a part of. We’ve now been running Summer Afternoons in the Park for four years. When we began, there were around 40 of us gathering over picnics and games. Fast forward and on 10 March 2019 we had over 200 with inflatable castles, a free sausage sizzle, and loads of fun, great conversations and new connections formed. Many new ideas were hatched too for how to continue building the sense of identity and belonging in our community as new residents continue to move into the Point. Huge thanks to Countdown Hobsonville, Ryman Healthcare and Upper Harbour Board for their amazing support!

Christmas on the Point 2017 was another special time for the Hobsonville Point Community with over 250 in attendance despite some unfortunate weather to begin the evening. The event was hosted by the Hobsonville Point Church Family and the Hobsonville Community Trust with the carols being beautifully led by the Shore Community Church team. AVJennings provided a yummy bbq while Harcourts Cooper & Co brought their Coffee & Cone van to the joy of the children. Santa made a special visit and it was just a great time together all around.
