Sunderland Lounge – Te Rere

Description

The Sunderland Lounge – Te Rere was built in the late 1940s and was initially used as the airbase’s cinema. The building was named after the Sunderland seaplanes which were based at Hobsonville in the 1940s and 1950s. ‘Te Rere’ means to move, flow, or go into action which supports the notion of Sunderland Lounge as a ‘doing’ space on a larger scale than that of Headquarters.

The renovation of the Sunderland Lounge is now complete with final handover processes underway. The venue will be open for hire from Sunday 13 October. It is comprised of a large community hall, a community space with a large kitchen, and a new meeting room.

The maximum capacity of the Sunderland Lounge across all hirers/rooms is 374 due to fire safety ratings.

It is available for hire from 7am to 10pm.

How to book

The Sunderland Lounge will be open for hire from Sunday 13 October. It is comprised of a large community hall, a community space with a large kitchen, and a new meeting room.

Bookings for both the Headquarters Building and Sunderland Lounge are available through an online booking system linked above. If you wish to become a regular hirer of an ongoing hire slot, please email [email protected].

All rooms in each venue are available from 7am-10pm daily. If you need the facilities outside of this window, this may be possible with pre-approval from one of our venue team. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

All bookings need to include time for setup, arrival meet & greet, packdown and cleaning. Minimum booking time is 1 hour. Hire can then increase in 15 minute increments.

The community facilities will be available to all and the hire rates will be similar to those of other similar Auckland comunity facilities. These are currently being worked through in consultation with Auckland Council and will be available here and on the booking page once the reopening date is confirmed. There will be a discount for not-for-profit community groups of 40%. Special community events/initiatives that contribute directly to targeted community outcomes may be eligible for additional discounting. This will be on a case by case basis only.

NB: Online bookings can only be made at least 72 hours in advance. Otherwise bookings need to be made via email ([email protected]) and will only be responded to during our staffed hours of Monday-Friday 9.15am-2.45pm. Weekend access is not possible if bookings have not been confirmed by Friday 2.45pm.
